If you've never had your artificial turf professionally cleaned, you might wonder what the process actually involves. Is it just spraying something and leaving? Does it require the turf to be removed? Do you need to be home?
Here's exactly what happens during a Turf Cleaning San Diego appointment.
Step 1: Arrival and Assessment (10 minutes) Our technician arrives with all equipment — you don't need to supply anything. We do a brief walkthrough of the turf, noting: - High-use areas (where pets go most often) - Any visible staining or particularly affected zones - Infill depth and condition - Fiber condition (matting, discoloration)
Step 2: Debris Removal (5–15 minutes) Any surface debris — leaves, dirt, pet waste — is removed before treatment. Applying enzyme product over debris reduces effectiveness.
Step 3: Pre-Rinse (10 minutes) The turf is thoroughly rinsed with water. This begins the process of softening any crystallized surface contamination and ensures the enzyme product can penetrate freely.
Step 4: Enzyme Application (15–20 minutes) Commercial-grade enzyme concentrate is applied evenly across the entire turf surface, with additional concentration in high-use zones. The product must dwell — sit in contact with the infill — for a minimum of 15 minutes to complete the biological reaction.
This dwell time is what separates professional cleaning from a hose-down. The enzymes need time to find ammonia crystals, bind to them, and catalyze their breakdown.
Step 5: Agitation (10 minutes) For deeper contamination (The Local Legend and Big Kahuna packages), we use specialized brushes to work the enzyme product into the infill. This improves penetration and ensures the product reaches the base of the infill layer.
Step 6: Final Rinse and Fiber Restoration (15 minutes) Once the enzyme reaction is complete, the turf is rinsed thoroughly. Fibers are then brushed upright and groomed for appearance.
Step 7: Inspection We walk through the completed area with you before leaving. If any zones were particularly affected, we may apply a second enzyme treatment at no charge.
Total Time: 60–90 minutes for a typical 500 sq ft yard.
Can pets return immediately? Pets and kids can return within 30 minutes of completion — the enzyme solution is completely safe once the turf is dry.
